Writer's Block: The Right to Privacy

Should some parts of celebrities' lives be off-limits to the public, or is giving up privacy a fair price for being famous?
This is a retarded question. OF COURSE celebrities deserve their privacy! Anyone who doesn't believe that is morally bankrupt, and they're destroying lives. Michael Jackson was essentially murdered by a lifestyle that had eyes on him 24/7, as was Elvis Presley decades ago. If you don't think Brittany Spears, Lindsay Lohan and that cunt from Jon + Kate are headed down that same path, you're fooling yourself. Yes, I think it's horrible that Erin Andrews (ESPN reporter) was filmed naked, and I think most of the comments you see in comment sections reporting her troubles are even more disgusting; where the fuck are we as a society, where most of the people I hear from - both online and off - say "look at her, she wants to be looked at". This is akin to saying "she was raped, but really, she was asking for it".

It's obscene that people think that just because someone is famous, that they give up their rights to their own lives. I'd like to see what would happen if the tables were turned. They can say that they have the right to reject that which these celebrities did not, but my argument against that is that these celebrities are famous for reasons, such as performing well in movies, or on an athletic field. That is not reason enough to determine that their lives - and that of their families - are no longer private.

I agree. Tis why I don't delve into celeb gossip very much at all.

Honestly? I'm more worried about the fact that for every fan site there is, there are two ANTI-fan sites. Seriously, does the world really need an entire website dedicated to how much its community hates Rachel Ray? Is the subject so noteworthy that its member's tireless contributions can't be better spent elsewhere.

People were retardedly obssessed before, but I fear that the dawn of the internet has bred a level of stupidity never seen before. I fear where we'll be thirty years from now.

This, so very much. Too many people forget that celebrities aren't just puppets for their entertainment - they're human beings.
