First off, one of the rules is to TAG EIGHT PEOPLE. YOU MUST DO THIS OR YOU ARE A HORRIBLE PERSON AND WILL DIE AND YOU'RE ALSO GAY YOU FAGGOT. I love not tagging people because I love pissing off Livejournal emos.

Second, I have to do SOMETHING with this journal, no?

001. what songs are you currently addicted to?
As of right now, my obsession is progressive rock/prog rock. My big obsession right now is Music Machine by a guy named Erik Norlander. Very atmospheric stuff. Maybe a little too electronic for some people, but I'm really getting into prog rock lately.

002. what are you currently reading?
I really don't have time to read much. If anything counts, it's Elementary Japanese. Everything is dedicated to work nowadays.

003. what was the last movie you saw?
I don't even remember. I don't go to theatres, and I don't watch movies at home. I think the last one was Major League. Five months ago.

004. what makes you angriest/most frustrated right now?
Probably a growing sense of urgency with my writing. I am pounding the pavement right now, but aren't getting many paid sniffs. the ones I'm getting are from people I don't think will pay.

005. favorite book and why?
I don't know how many times I have to answer this question.

006. what are your current addictions?
I think my current addiction is Mount & Blade Warband, and judging from Fenix, I'm not the only one. Though I find it funny: I gave the original a somewhat poor write-up, and was killed in comments and email, from fans saying I was a piece of shit. This time around? Absolutely no feedback.

007. what is your favorite t-shirt?
Honestly, I don't have one. My favourites are all basically the same: plain grey T-shirts from Champs. Five for $20! I don't like printed T-shirts. I like plain.

008. something about you that most people don't know? extra points if it's interesting.
My left big toenail is perpetually and probably permanently fucked up. I had it removed in 2003 while I was in the service because of an ingrown toenail (that's just how they fix shit like that), and it never grew back right. I don't even know how to describe it, other than that it's hideous. It's even worse since I dropped something on it a week ago; now, it's hideous AND has a big blood bruise in it.

009. what was the last thing you bought?
Dinner at a new place in Derby, named Luciarelli's. One word review: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. That's going to be a 5-star review on Yelp.

010. do you have more friends online or off?
On. I only really have two friends offline (not counting Aileen, who counts as both).

011. something that made you laugh today?
My friend Terrell - fellow referee - and I went through game 2 of the 1996 World Cup of Hockey final between the US and Canada. We played a game called Count The Penalties. This involves watching a game from before the 2004 Lockout, and counting all the plays that would be penalties under the "new" NHL. Our final count: ONE-HUNDRED AND FOUR. Let's just say there was a lot of clutching, grabbing and shit away from the play back then. XD

012. favorite non-alcoholic beverage?
Right now? Probably Vitamin Water. I drink that shit almost religiously.

013. what was the last thing you ate?
My mother's latest "inspiration": bacon-coated roast. Take a roast, sear it, cook it a bit, then pull it out, and cover it all in bacon, after poking some holes in the meat to let the bacon juice seep into the meat. It's insane. It was OK, but honestly, I am trying to get LESS fat into my life, and this doesn't help. It also doesn't help that because Terrell was over, we had it with french fries, instead of my preferred starch (mashed potatoes)

014. what are your current favorite pairings?
I don't do "pairings", or at least new ones. Hector X Lyndis is obviously still my "favourite", if that counts.

015. favorite website?
Come read my shit!

016. what are your plans for tomorrow?
I have to play East India Company, because on a site with a bunch of different reviewers, apparently I'm the only one that can call PC games. There's at least one person on my FL that *will* take the next downloadable title. With Alex out on an indefinite leave, I almost took the liberty of hiring the writer that applied (and was approved, but by that point, Alex was pretty much on leave), and telling her "OK, here's your first game". I might do that anyway, as it's just a matter of doing the work on the server for her. Other than that, I'm planning on Sticks + Pucks in Shelton, and then later, the Actor's Colony run (2 miles).

017. what kind of music is contained in your hard drive?
A little bit of everything, but the predominant mix is of rap, various rock/metal concoctions, and video game soundtracks, though there's only a few of those I listen to a lot (hello, Chrono Cross and Ys).

018. favorite color?
Green.

019. pet peeve?
People that are intellectually not curious. I get a lot of these people around where I live, and sadly, I don't think my area is the exception. I like people that want BOTH sides of an argument. I like people that read books and columns from people they know they hate, if only because hearing thoughts you agree with all the time doesn't do anything. I like people that don't listen to anything said by Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity OR Keith Olbermann. I like people interested in reading, in learning, and in bettering themselves. In short, I like people that have more to talk about than their kids, their jobs, and their own pathetic, meandering lives.

Naturally, this is one of the reasons I don't do much with Facebook nowadays. I have 89 friends left, and I actually like about 15 of them. Surprise, surprise: most of those are "online" friends like Aileen, Anne, Liz, Anna, etc. XD

020. guilty pleasure?
I'm not sure if I have a "guilty" pleas-- wait! I found one!

My superpower: making Chris do stupid memes.

I guess I will have to accept the fact that I'll never be an X-Man.

When you want people to hear your music, then link them to the youtube disco like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?playnext=1&playnext_from=QL&feature=disco&v=tphXEVfAgiM#!q=Erik%20Norlander&st=disco

But it's very nice actually!

Yeah but I'm taking a little break from it now because it confirms one of my life's basic tenants: Nobility are assholes.

I have to play East India Company, because on a site with a bunch of different reviewers, apparently I'm the only one that can call PC games.

Sorry :(

Green.

HEY WE HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON OTHER THAN VIDEOGAMES AND SOCCER! :D

*ponders*

I am finding the practice of not listening to – and not reading – pundits to be good for the brain. The arguments that they make are insubstantial. If I am going to soak up politics, I am going to do it through real journalists – no sense in listening to a Maddow if you can read a Zakaria, IMO – and authors that can back up their assertions, though it is at the point that I must take all of those individuals with a grain of salt.

Reading is the one human pursuit that has no innately negative effects, and knowledge for the sake of knowledge is a thing that has become so rare in the U.S. that even a person like me who indulges it out of casual habit can feel like the smartest person in the room by default. :-( Particularly in Cincinnati.
