Bwh? (Politics)

OK, so let me get this straight...

John Abramoff pleads guilty to accepting kickbacks and all this other shit, and for trying to bribe lawmakers in Congress... and says he's going to name names... while everyone's giving back the money they took in contributions as "charity"... but no one knows how much he gave, and it will likely be classified... but it's OK for other people who haven't been caught to give money, in essence bribing their candidates with money and votes for their policies... which is strangly legal... and when President Bush brought forth a candidate for the Supreme Court way back when, everyone complained that "this isn't why we supported him, we want what we asked for when we supported him", which sounds like a threat that would come from an unsucessful bribe... which is strangely allowed... so basically, it's OK to accept bribes, and bribe people, as long as you don't get caught for massive amounts of fraud? Is that it? Despite the fact that the whole practise is basically fraudulant and illegal?

My head hurts.

Left open, because I can't wait to see how Dilbert is going to put his foot in his mouth on this one.

Law doesn't always follow logic...and really, the cynical old phrase is true in these cases: it's only illegal if you're caught.

Even though you never responded to my point in the other Supreme Court Entry

The idea is that if you get too out of line (like Abramoff) you'll get punished. Not a great standard but it's very hard to keep money out of poltics.

Personally the thing(s) I'm hoping for most this year is (a) to see Tom Delay in jail (b)See him lose his seat in the house.
