I'm bored. Let's try something new.

Comment asking me what my stance is on any political or social issue, and I'll give my unbridled opinions, and take a stance.

I figure this might give me the motivation to actually fucking write something. At the very least, it will give me something to sharpen my debate skills with.

Just two things:

1) No personal attacks on either side. This is about stating opinions and debate.
2) No bullshit posts. I'll just delete them.

EDIT: If anyone feels the need to link to this, or their own comments, I surely won't complain. I realize half my friends stopped reading at word one because it didn't involve butt-humping cartoons, so I'd like to hear from outsiders, surely.

Against. I'm very concerned about Canada's feeling that they have to follow America into the depths of hell, which is precisely where they're being led. America has basically said "You're with us or against us", and Canada didn't call their bluff. That's disappointing.

1) I'm a huge proponent of free health care; Canada has it, why not America? The only thing holding it up is that the rich don't want to help the poor. That's IT. And personally, I give less than a shit about the rich; if you're not filthy rich, you can't get good health care without going ridiculously into debt.

2) This one's tricky; on the one hand, I'm not fond of what is going on in Venezuela, where Chavez seems to be jumping over the fine line between socialism and communism (the latter is bad). On the OTHER hand, as we've seen in America, Capitalism is a failure; it drives prices up to rediculous proportions, makes businessmen live in a cutthroat environment, and the only one left standing are so ruthless that they have no qualms about sending thousands of American jobs to poor, non Capitalist countries (where they're cheaper) while taking the profits for themselves.

This is where I've been looking at Social Democracy a LOT lately; a mixed economy (NO Privatization of things like Social Security, but leave the rest private, but VERY structured), where private owners can make their money, but can't abuse it like they can under NAFTA's current rules.

The first one was kinda given but the second one is more intresting.

I've been getting more and more into the socialist model economy (wtf! Islamosocialism ftw!). I agree that all goverment functions (healhcare, social security, education) should never be privatized (although private hospitals and schools and the like are okay) Also, I think a country should use some of it's income in starting up industries where it has no presence. This is kinda moot for the US where it has an industry for everything imaginable but Saudi Arabia? We have....Oil. and that's pretty much it (though Sabic a company listed around 100 on the Forbes 500 makes plastics and fertlisers as well as steel mostly oil byproducts though) Why not start a national car company? India has a company,Pakistan has that industry as well as Malaysia why shouldn't we? we need diversification. What? We have no qualified Automobile engineers? Then send some of the burgeoning population overseas to learn goddamit. >:O

Abortion.

(Sorry; it was the first one that popped into my head)

I like what I said about this in my Sensetarian Party entry; I can't find that entry, but thankfully, another member made a very long response that I have bookmarked:

ABORTION: Fully legal from weeks 1-20. Most medical facts that I personally have seen have stated that a foetus isn't really a living organism until the third trimester; this gives enough time to know that you're pregnant and make a decision.

Furthermore, I'd enforce a mandatory 10 days between going to a clinic and saying "I want an abortion" and getting the abortion; no more, no less. This is for two reasons: one, this is to prevent a woman gettind delayed by pro-life plants who either scare them shitless or blow them off until third trimester. Secondly, it means the woman has to really think about it before she goes in; once you're in, if you back out, you're not ready for an abortion.

"But Chris! What about people that just use it as birth control?" Yeah, what about them? Let 'em in. Let them do it. Why? Well, let's see... is it better to abort a foetus before you give birth to it, or do you give birth to an unwanted child, risk it being ignored, abused, put into the DCF cycle, etc. for 18 years, and then after that, pray that he's not a career criminal once he grows up fucked up? I'll take my chances on the former. Furthermore, we have Bob Barker telling us "control the pet population" by getting them spayed and neutered, and if that doesn't work, we put puppies and kitty-witties down to "sleep"... yet we can't do that to UNBORN children? Maybe we'd be better off if we said we were putting foetuses to sleep...

My mother feels that abortions should be covered by welfare. I don't agree, because I don't agree with the welfare system as it is, though I would make it necessary for health insurance to cover it for health purposes (her life is in danger). But the fact of the matter is that abortion is not the moral sewer that people think it is, and so far, the only reason I'm seeing to ban abortion is a bunch of Brits singing "Every Sperm is Sacred". That's not gonna cut it, especially since that's based on religion. More on THAT dagwood later.

I believe in full, 100% equality. Equal pay, equal rights, etc. I don't see a debate there, with the exception of hate crimes, which I am against the ideal of.

Any "war" over a fucking videogame had better be virtual, and played on a server. People being fanboys for a system to the point where they hopelessly defend it to the death aren't just foolish, they've become whores for large corporations.

I like the article that Mark Cuban wrote on this subject: http://www.blogmaverick.com/2007/02/03/the-fanboy-culture/

(After Mark Cuban had a reality show, I was not inclined to listen to anything he had to see, but that is a good article, so I might have to revise my opinion.)

Even he admits that the show was a horrible idea. And Mark Cuban has some BRILLIANT thoughts on everything from the internet to sports (remember, he's the owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, a team that he made relevant) to society. He's a brilliant thinker.

And when our workforce was thinking of going to business casual dress (away from our current standard of "please try not to have your dick hanging out of your boxers while working"), I linked around this article, and... we haven't changed our dress code. :)

Has to be there. If we're going go get rid of Social Security, we might as well celebrate someone's retirement - that isn't rich - by putting a slug into his head; that's essentially what we'd be doing by getting rid of it, only prolonging the process.

Let's see it become a more viable option first; right now, the people we have to talk into this are profiting too much off of fossil fuel.

1) Fully for it. Don't see the problem, and think that religion should disappear completely from the government equation.
2) Not even worth a real mention.

100% foolish. Nothing makes me happier than seeing New York fans look stupid when they overreact.

And yes, I even want the Yankees to win the AL East, to prove everyone that said "Fire Torre!" to be a fucking retard.

What is your stance on the "right to bear firearms"?

(from Tauro)

I've never seen a firearm shoot itself.

Americans should have the right to bear arms; the more people take my right, as a citizen with no real arrest warrant, to bear firearms away, the less able I am to defend myself from criminals that don't care about what the law is. I reserve the right to defend myself by any means necessary, and will die before I lose that right. BTW, I am not above equating that same government that wants to take my rights away as those criminals that I mention.

It's been a right of ours since our country's inception. And we should be allowed to keep it, because if you outlaw guns... well, you know the rest.

The first toughie I've had...

Normally, I would not have sympathy for this. He hurt his unit.

... But we're going on years now. Soldiers are going for a year, sent home for 30 days (which is just long enough for someone to realize what they're missing), and get sent right back in for 30. These people are desperate, and the sad thing is that they know what they're coming home to; their jobs are gone, they will not get the mental help they need (as Bush keeps cutting VA funding, or did until the conditions at Reed gave him a public relations nightmare), and most of their marriages are ruined... and the ones that weren't married, good luck having the social skills to get married.

You saw it with QWERTY, sweetie... actually, no. You didn't see it. You only saw a part of it. You saw the aprehension, but you didn't see the anger because a post that QWERTY made that had the phrase "sand nigger" and "raghead" in it over ten times each was deleted. Was deleted by BLACKEN. It's palpable. And QWERTY will never, ever be the same. And not in a good way, sadly.

In this case - and anything else because of Vietnam 2.0 - I say fuck the Army and fuck the government, they made this bed and now they can lie in it.

This, of course, is failing to mention that this man is going back to Iraq. Don't doubt it; he's going back. Some pencil pusher will fuck him, and send him back, ignoring that he's a risk to his fellow platoon members at this point; they're going to stick it to him the same way they stuck it to me.
