Nothing is more satisfying than the Carolina Hurricanes and their stupid, backwoods, bandwagoning fans getting bounced out of the playoffs.

I quite honestly admit I am a complete jumper-on of the Capitals bandwagon these past few weeks. I'm not sure where this Carolina hatred came from, but it just popped up in me one day and I have been gleefully following their failures since. My usual team is the Canucks, since we have their affiliate here in the Moose, but since they are out I'm firmly behind Washington. Might make me a bad Canadian, but after all the hatred of the Jets years, there's NO way I can call myself a fan of Edmonton or Calgary, the Leafs are an embarrassment, I've never liked Montreal, and the Senators are on the road to a quick failure.

Canucks are out, and really stunk up the GM Palace against Calgary on Saturday, in the "let's hope Trevor forgets how badly we fucked him over by trading him to Long Island" cup. Rangers got the fifth seed, and despite the regular season record, I don't think they'll get past New Jersey.

And you know, my statement isn't based around pure, unadulterated jingoism and ignorance. While in Raleigh for a couple of weeks on business, I did get the opportunity to see the Canes play the Capitals. I kept an open mind (I wasn't going to go at first), and wanted to be impressed, but... I'm sorry, man. All I saw were a bunch of people in their brand new red jerseys who didn't know anything about the game, wanted the ref thrown out because one of the players got what I assume was a stinger (by missing a check and crashing into the boards in the 2nd), a LOT of people who'd never even HEARD of the Whalers, much less knew that their team used to play in Hartford, and on top of all of that, all I could think about wasn't a sold out arena in the middle of a playoff race against a hot team and an eclectic superstar, but all of those four digit crowds in Greensboro and the early Raleigh days.

I tried, I really did... but I kept wishing I was at Harbor Yard, watching the Soundtigers. And to put into perspective my feelings for the Hurricanes organization and the area in question:

1) I've had the Capitals, in my "Make the NHL Not Suck" proposal, listed as a candidate for contraction, and

2) I'm on record as being in awe of the organization of DC's/Arlington's local hockey, which is an area I didn't expect to be on point.
