Job does affect happiness. And your overall happiness is VERY important, especially when you interact with people a lot. People like my mom, who expect everyone to get a job doing anything, no matter what it is or how unhappy it makes them, will never understand that. -_-

Well, consider where she's likely coming from; you can't always pick and choose. You have to work as hard as you can to get the best job, but you don't always have that option, and as you get older and end up on your own, the focus becomes less on "happy" and more on "survive", ESPECIALLY when a kid enters the equation.

And really, I ended up with the better job in my situation; at that point, it was either Perimeter, or Cablevision, in a call centre. No fucking thanks. And I had turned down two other jobs to that point due to the killer commute and focus on "pleasing" people (entrepreneurs that are idiots to begin with).

So while your mother might have forgotten what youthful hope is like, she does bring a valid point to the yard.

Oh I know she has a valid point, you can't ALWAYS pick and choose, but she has had plenty of opportunities for better jobs in her lifetime that probably would've had her set for life in a job she would enjoy, yet she passed them by because of other people, that really by no means should rule her life. And now, she complains that she's not happy.
