Got Hates Women?

Well, no... but the humans that speak in "His" name do.

A good portion of my female dominated, 2nd generation feminist friends' list should enjoy this one.

RELIGION IS EVIL! THERE HAVE NEVER BEEN FEMALE LEAD RELIGIONS IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD, BECAUSE I SAY SO, NOT BECAUSE I HAVE ACTUALLY DONE ANY RESEARCH!

Sorry, had to get that out somewhere, and it is too early for passive aggressive posts in my LJ. This is mostly directed towards her second paragraph, and beyond where she denies theological theories brought IN by second wave feminism. Which include the belief that pre-Christian religions were for the most part matriarchal in nature.

Though considering I "hate women", maybe I really shouldn't say anything at all.

Well, for one, it's not just Christianity that's under attack here. Personally, I'm a LOT more concerned about the other religions in the world - especially the Muslims - in terms of how they treat their women.

It can't be really argued that women historically, when in a religious mindset, are ordered to take a backseat to men. Didn't a lot of people in high places strongly object when female preachers started coming about? Furthermore, not only is it a social stigma, but a lot of the laws pushed for by those that identify as religiously based are anti-woman, in all aspects of life; again, it's not as much of a problem in North America as it is elsewhere, and in other religions, but our religiously pressured stances on everything from abortion to homosexual relationships punish feminine lines of thinking.

I wasn't disagreeing with her stance on current religions. Christianity has dropped the ball for a long time when it comes to even recognising that they';ve taken a lot of verses out of context to justify their views, and have blatently ignored others. And I agree that several other modern religions are also problematic with this.

However, where she says "Whether it's one of the world's major faiths or an off-the-wall cult, religion means one thing and one thing only for those women unfortunate enough to get caught up in it: oppression." she is so blatently over generalising every religion as a man-dominated, she completely ignores that, gasp, there have been some female dominated religions, and that there has been progress made in the current guard. Maybe it's the debater in me, but I prefer it when statements have a dollup of research put into them instead of being thrown out there with little justification to back them up.

The stance on current religions is completely right, which sucks balls, but unfortunately that's the way it is. Any person who says otherwise and tries to change the way things are is likely to get stoned to fucking death, be it literally or metaphorically. As far as past religions go, willfor is completely right, there were a lot of matriarchal religions.
