Writer's Block: Day of German Unity

It’s the Day of German Unity, marking the 1990 reunification of East and West Germany. In our current period of global instability, do you ever feel nostalgic for the seeming simplicity of the Cold War?
GOD no. Is this a rhetorical question?

It wasn't that simple, people. While people were concerned about Russia, they forget - or are/were ignorant to - the horrible ways America was spreading imperialism in third world countries, as profiled by Noam Chomsky in The Political Economy of Human Rights, Volume I: The Washington Connection and Third World Fascism. As a matter of fact, I agree with Chomsky's view that the whole ideal of the Cold War being USA vs. USSR was an idealogical construct meant to distract and polarize America's citizens (after all, does it get any simpler than Red vs. Blue?) (Deterring Democracy). Other than after 9/11, and it could be argued during World War II, America has never been as Jingoistic as during that era, and Jingoism is a very, very bad thing because it takes all rationality out of the picture.

Would I like to go back to a time-frozen period between 1997 and November of 2000? Of course, and not many people would disagree with that. But to think that the Cold War was "better" than this is a fallacy, and I'd even go as far as to say it was worse; remember, there was no internet during that era (ARPANET doesn't count), so we weren't nearly as educated, savvy, or even as cynical as we are now.
