Wikipedia says he died in 2003 and it also said he was politically active in 2008. wtf.

Bloomberg maybe? Wealthy and important enough to make a splash without the big-party machine, differs enough from each party to draw some strong niche support, and that successful financial background makes him the "candidate of common sense" if he's facing two lifetime politicians. Not saying he has a chance to win that way, but if I read you right you're looking for someone to put pressure on both sides and nab 10 to 15 percent of the popular vote, and I think Bloomy could do that in 2012, especially if he's running against a 76-year-old incumbent from his own party.

God forbid McCain get elected. Not that I like Obama, but still.

Bloomberg would actually jibe with my political views, though a lot of what he did in New York - banning of trans-fats, banning of this, banning of that, a lot of "banned" shit which doesn't jibe with my Libertarian streak - didn't sit with me. That said, he's a financial genius, and though he's a droll, unlikeable man, I don't need to like my candidate, he just needs to do his job. Our economy needs a Bloomberg.
