Debate thoughts

- I'll bet Joe Wurzelbacher's business soars so much over the next few months that he'll be able to hire many more employees, increased taxes or no.

- I liked that moderator. After Jim Leaher, who was just happy to be there, Tom Brokaw, who's a Botox-injected piece of trash, and Gwen Ifill, who practically had to wear a sign saying "NO I WILL NOT STUMP FOR OBAMA", Bob Schieffer was a wonderful breath of fresh air who actually made people answer the questions. He was a delightful old coot.

- "I'm not George Bush! If you wanted to run against George Bush, you should have run four years ago!" - Hey, you pick Bush With Tits to be your VP, you take those comparisons.

- Someone who's VP was at a rally where she was all but complicit when someone screamed "KILL HIM!" when Obama was mentioned really shouldn't comment about negative campaigning, especially when it was announced that they were going to go negative. "Oh yeah, we're going right after that nigger... oh, did I say that? Is that on the record? Please change that to tar-baby, I mean, negro! JIGABOO!"

- The debate itself? I think McCain came out on top, overall. Obama essentially spent the night in the equivalent of a Prevent defence (American Football term, everyone), as he was more or less going in not to fuck up. Obama didn't need this one.

When McCain was deriding Obama for his ad campaigns, I thought he was going to cry. It was bizarre and unnerving. Otherwise, I think it goes without saying the these debates were business-as-usual.

I agree; Joe the Plumber's gonna be an overnight celebrity. And yeah, he's gonna get plenty of business. Funny how that works.

As far as the outcome goes, I respectfully disagree. Obama had to play defense the whole time, true, but the impression I had was that McCain had nothing left to say about policy and could only go on the attack, coming across as a man on his last legs. Obama didn't fuck up, and, judging from a number of polls, he's probably not going to.

That's not to say there won't be shenanigans on Election Day, but we'll see if McCain can do this more cleanly and honorably than Dubya did.

I thought Obama was a little too effusive with his answers. He would go off on some tangents that had me struggling to connect the lines, instead going "what was the question again?", not THAT bad, but I thought McCain was more direct when he wasn't shining the head of Mr. Clean over in Ohio.

I think a lot of the "Who won" polls were already decided by some of their participants ahead of time, just by how the campaign has gone. Who the fuck is still undecided at this point? Are they waiting for something to happen? For McCain to come out in an army helmet and go "DAMN THE TORPEDOES!!!"? For Obama to start being white? For Palin's head to start spinning counter-clockwise, as she starts reciting in tongues (though if you ask most of my female friends, a lot of whom are either bisexual or lesbians, she's done that already. Watching them react is fun!)? Though I had to admit, the more I hear that siren speak, the more I instinctively cringe. That's not a good reaction, is it? I was watching old Daily Show episodes, and one was right after the VP debate, and it was all I could do not to start screaming at my screen.

I just don't know who can still be undecided, or how CNN can figure out just how to get them to show their approval or disapproval on that little bar graph; what, does it show just how many people are masturbating whenever Obama or McCain say something they like? "Oooooh, he made a socialist remark! *fap fap fap*" There's only one problem I found, though: when Obama was talking about letting women make the choice of abortion, and making that federal, reportedly (I watched the debate on BBC), his ratings with men went through the floor, but his ratings with women shot through the roof. Awesome. We still have a gender war.
