The nightmare continues

Does Mrs. Jean have a prayer of fixing this? - Me, in willfor_iv, yesterday.

Answer: Nope. She's just another coward at Harper's mercy.

Awesome. So in this time, the Tories are sure to continue their double-standard of PR blitz and back-room circumvention. Let's see what they've learned from US Republicans on how to bludgeon and intimidate the media, circumvent the law, and use enough stalling tactics to make this little "problem" go away.

Ironically, after succeeding with their brazen stall tactic - how could anyone see this as anything but? - I've lost all confidence in the government as it is, which is saying something.

EDIT: Lost in all this is that while the Canadian economy tailspins as a result of the American economy's failure, THEY ARE CLOSING DOWN THE GOVERNMENT FOR PURELY POLITICAL REASONS. Two plus two equals penguins!? It's too hard to pass a stimulus package!? Oh, I forgot, we're going to save the economy by banning strikes (setting a dangerous precedent) and banning women from suing from equal pay (haha, silly cunts think they're actually equal!). My bad.

If there's any benefit, the Canadians that still care enough to vote seem smart enough to see through this.

As I said before, I'm pretty sure the Master (Doctor Who villain) could get elected PM at this point as long as his party ran on the platform of poison gasing the other leaders.

Starting with Harper. SO not my favourite person.

63% of Canadians support this decision. I support this decision. We desperately need a chance for the Canadians who fear where our country is going (according to the same poll, a massive number) to tell their MPs to stop screwing us. I know I am.

What is hoped to be accomplished with this? Other than by Harper and any Conservative MPs, what is to be accomplished by shutting down Parliament for seven weeks? Canadians have a chance to tell their MPs they're pissed? They haven't been doing that?

The whole reason for this is because Harper needed some time. It can be explained away that this gives him a chance to at least make the Throne Speech, and present his budget, but he knows what the score is now; I think he's going to make a lot of promises that he has no intention of keeping. This was a naked reach to keep power in my eyes, and it's going to take a lot to convince me otherwise.

Maybe in America you are used to rapid degradation of political situations cause by both sides utterly refusing to budge on anything. What has managed to be accomplished in the past few days is the complete lack of thought by people in power chomping at the bit to save their own hides. Right now, in both Liberal and Conservative parties, people are FURIOUS at their leaders. Conservative backbenchers, while toting the party line are undermining Harper because he has basically lead them down a path of stupidity when he was supposed to be the smart one! Liberals are pissed at Dion not only for making them lose by one of their largest margins in history, but also because he has managed to completely bomb his latest test as Coalition leader.

Time for everyone to sit down, and face the music in their own parties, and their positions in relations to other parties is pretty much exactly what this country needs.

Reminds me of when the Republicans shut down the U.S. government during the Clinton years. ... Which, oddly enough, led to the Lewinski business, since it wasn't 'til he was sitting in the White House with nothing to do (and the lights out) that he got involved in that to a degree that got him in trouble.

Funny how that's history now, rather than current events.

As for Canada, what the fuck are they doing? Time is money, and that's especially true now.
