No, it's NOT anime...

Going from the last episodes of Zeta Gundam - maybe the most dramatic, well-written anime story I've seen so far - to the first six episodes of Gundam ZZ is like going from an exquisite rib roast dinner, seasoned to perfection, with sides of potatoes, mixed vegetables, a brilliant french onion soup and a glass of Pinot Noir to a Happy Meal packed with an Ed, Edd and Eddy toy.

Jesus H. Christ. There's so much wrong. But I think I'm going to include "I swear upon this rose!" in everyday vernacular. "Chris, we have a firmware upgrade at 5PM. Can you handle that?" "I swear upon this rose, the gift of Lady Haman, that I will complete this upgrade, for the betterment of all firewalls the universe over!" "Uh... OK, yeah... um, do we need to have a talk?"

(And when did Haman Karn, Cunt Extraordinare turn into Lady Haman, Benevolent Leader? And how did she eventually turn into Haman Karn, Stalker And Closet Teen Lover (I forget the term)? And speaking of weird, how is it that they turned Yazan Gable, the most powerful pure fighter and biggest killer in Gundam Zeta, into comic relief? But did this AFTER he killed the best crew member on the Argama (Segusa) in a skit that was comedic otherwise? My head hurts)

I'm going to jump for joy the first time I load an episode up and hear Silent Voice instead of Anime Ja'Nai. That seems to be the moment that ZZ stops sucking.

She only appears that way to Mashymre, since that makes him easy to manipulate. Not that Mashymre's all that bright, anyway.

She has a specific reason for wanting to subvert Judau; I wouldn't call it anything approaching love. (The word you're looking for is ephebophiliac, BTW.)

No good answer for you on that one. Remember what we've said about Tomino wanting to use ZZ to kill the franchise.

But did this AFTER he killed the best crew member on the Argama (Segusa) in a skit that was comedic otherwise? My head hurts.)

That's an inside joke, actually. Saegusa was also the name of the sound guy from Zeta; I guess they killed his namesake on the show at about the same time they gave him the boot. Notice how all the music in ZZ is different after that (and pretty much awful, IMO).

Wait for Silent Voice, which starts up when the crew makes it to Earth for the third story arc (The Earth Is Beautiful; the first two are Newtype and For My Dear Sister). Things get better then, barring some really weird interludes (mostly involving Chara).

Let me guess: Newtype ability of Haman's? I like how everything abnormal is because of Newtype abilities, like how in Star Wars, everything is because of the Force.

What, is he going to be a guinnea pig or something?

I still believe that; if anything, that's the first thought I had once I read about ZZ's plot. And knowing Tomino, I believe it. Anyone who could write Space Runaway Ideon is capable of anything, IMO.

I haven't watched enough ZZ to notice a difference in the music. I really only notice the music, in most cases, at the beginning and end, and in that case, ZZ delivers; all four songs they use are good.

I'm kinda glad, after the below average ZZ and abominably bad CC that they went with G Gundam (unless they did 0091 or Victory in that time). They needed a change, because it was getting silly. That's why I think Tomino wanted to kill Gundam; it was less his decision than it was the toy makers and Sunrise.

Actually, it's just good acting on her part. She's pleasantly patronizing to him because he believes himself to be 'her knight' and all that crap. ... Mashymre's a dumbass, I swear.

Okay, here comes the word wall.

The theory here is that Judau wasn't even that much of a Newtype until he had contact with the unconscious Kamille; that 'flipped a switch' inside his head. I sometimes wonder if it's Kamille's will to stop Haman that drives Judau, even if he's not aware of it. That, and Judau's a specific kind of Newtype. Kamille was the strongest 'pure' Newtype; he figured out that the real purpose of the ability was to join people together on a deep, psychic level.

(Notice that he tried to get inside Haman's head late in Zeta; she shut him out at the last minute, but, if he'd succeeded, she'd've surrendered right then.)

Judau's ability is more specialized: He exists only to kill Haman and wipe out her presence. I think she knows, on some level, that she can't beat him in direct combat because of that, and she tries to play head games with him instead.

It's up in the air as to whether or not Judau has any real natural ability. It's quite possible that he does, but it feels just as likely that Kamille chose him to finish what he couldn't finish.

I haven't watched enough ZZ to notice a difference in the music.

The openings and closings aren't bad, but the BGM really sucks ass at several spots.

that they went with G Gundam (unless they did 0091 or Victory in that time).

F91 and V(ictory) Gundam were both '91; G Gundam was '94. Tomino wanted F91 to be a TV series, but it got shoehorned into a movie; he hates V Gundam outright (to the point where there's a disclaimer from him on the Japanese DVD set in which he tells people not to watch the show!). This is a shame, since I think V Gundam is second only to Zeta in terms of quality.
