- Nancy Pelosi in HD is ghastly.

- Can we go ten minutes without 3/5ths the room standing for a standing ovation? This is like someone is hitting those "APPLAUSE" lights, and is doing it often, just to be a dick.

- It's fucking HILLARIOUS to watch over half the room stand and applaud for every word that Obama says, and then to watch the other 2/5ths either sit there, or go "OK, I'll fucking stand..."

- Looking at Charles Rangel makes me wonder if they're about to do a black version of Weekend at Bernie's.

- God, I can't fucking stand Nancy Pelosi.

- I'm sorry, but seeing the look on Mitch McConnell's face is absolutely fucking priceless. That's offset by the smirk on that bitch Pelosi's face, though.

- Obama brought up the Industrial Revolution. Maybe my history is a bit sketchy, but at the same time as the Industrial Revolution, the Democratic Industrial Machine and Boss Tweed were running rampant. Mr. Obama, I am seeing parallels.

- I just had a thought: is the Minnesota Senate election fucking over yet? You know, the one between Franken and that piece of shit that was pushed through after the death of Sen. Wellstone?

- Am I the only one a little less than enthused at Joe Biden being in charge of the stimulus? His civil liberties record is abhorrent, and this is the same bill that Nancy Feinstein tried to shovel "reasonable network management" through on. That's packet sniffing and log keeping at the ISP level, kiddies, and it's a gross breach of privacy.

- Jesus, even Biden's sick of standing at this point. Nancy keeps standing up, and Biden goes "Jesus, will this bitch take a fucking Valium..."

- Am I the only person that thinks "health care reform" and "reducing the federal deficit" are oxymorons?

- FDR reference! NEW DEAL ALERT! NEW DEAL ALERT! Republicans, start your engines!

- "The countries that out-teach us today will out-compete us tomorrow" - Um... Mr. Obama? They already kinda are. Have you seen our outsourcing records?

- "I challenge every person to get one year of higher education" - How? We're in an ECONOMIC CRISIS, YOU IDIOT. Also, "Everyone will need a four year education", Obama? That's... a bit of a problem for a lot of people, man.I know I've avoided it the past nine and a half years, and to be honest, I'm doing OK without it.

- Enough of the rhetoric. Enough of the bullshit. Enough of Nancy Fucking Pelosi. The Canucks are playing.

- Fuck.

blutter-blutter-blutter-blutter Va-ROOOM! Va-ROOOOOOOOOOM!~

"I challenge every person to get one year of higher education"
"Everyone will need a four year education"

What. The. Hell.

Are you sure you were listening to Obama and not Saturday Night Live or something? That sounds a little over-the-top even for him. Texas has already found out this isn't such a good idea in practice. And I'm a little confused as to why with 12+ freak'n years stuck in school for umpteen hours a day plus never-ending homework assignments until sundown we need to add another four or more years. Not everyone needs to be a rocket scientist, and education in and of itself is not some secret key to increased GDP and utopia.

I swear, in the future, you'll spend 125 years of your life in school. By the time you can graduate and get a job, you'll be so feeble you can't work more than half the day before they cart you off to your grave. I weep for the future of the human race. -_-

Dale, I swear to Joe Pesci, those are EXACT QUOTES.

Well, not exact quotes, but...

It is our responsibility as lawmakers and educators to make this system work. But it is the responsibility of every citizen to participate in it. And so tonight, I ask every American to commit to at least one year or more of higher education or career training. This can be community college or a four-year school; vocational training or an apprenticeship. But whatever the training may be, every American will need to get more than a high school diploma.

Yep there it is. Not quite as dire as the version you quoted, but a little discomforting to me all the same.

I'm over here in Mn., and the election is begining to look like a shaggy dog story.
Normskull is still laying down claw marks all the way to the door...

Sadly, the Coleman-Franken fiasco is ongoing.

As for the speech itself, I read the highlights. I don't really like looking at Nancy Pelosi, either.
