Writer's Block: Divided Self

Do you behave differently online than you do in real life?
No. Why would I?

People that do act vastly differently online than they do in real life are low-level sociopaths. People seem to think "hurf durf its the internet", as if the only thing on the other ends of those computers are lolcats and Pedobear. No, those are people over there, and people that intentionally act out things they wouldn't in "real life" - you know, where you're not anonymous and could earn a punch for acting like a dickhead - are just scared little people who will never be their own people.

Out of curiosity, what about people who are shyer offline? I know I tend to be a little quieter and less social offline than I am online--although I'm not sure if that counts as behaving "differently."

Well, to me, that's not the same; people that are shy can be brought out of their shell with friendship and companionship; Aileen was much more shy offline than online when I met her, but that's obviously not the case now.

I basically talk about people who's personalities - or genders - are completely different in the two environments. Usually for the worse online, where there's very little threat of legitimate retaliation.

I was gonna ask the same question as above. God knows I swear much more online then I do offline.

I keep to myself offline. Wise strategy when one lives in a region populated chiefly by evolutionary throwbacks. Online, at least, I can be myself.
