I swear to God, the fucking drama in this idiotic fucking fandom just keeps finding me. I try to go away, and it keeps finding me.

Aw man, what now? D:

It makes me audibly - AUDIBLY - groan that I have to talk about this. I was playing Fallout 3 (a great game, ignore the haters), and came back to an overloaded AIM and multiple PMs.

tl;dr summary:

Internal division between the staff on SF, the forum I sent everyone to after FESS went down. Josh (Crystal Eli, who isn't as retarded as he was in the olden days) didn't handle it well. That made Blacken start speaking up, because he has to (and also calling a lot of SF members idiots). That causes Eli... to flail like a drunken seal, showing the kind of leadership typically reserved for a kid with ADHD hooked on angel dust. This causes Fox, Black Knight (Fox's brother) and Sword Saint to weigh in, sometimes petulently, to their discredit. This causes Josh, once again the wonderful leader, to just keep warning people, even when they brought up legitimate and good ideas and complaints, exploiting his rules until they got up to 100% so he could ban them.

So in conclusion: boo on Blacken for being Blacken, boo on Sword Saint and Black Knight for coming across as children too often, boo on SF's memberbase just because they really are dumber than bricks, and major boo on Josh for handling everything about as poorly as you could possibly imagine, and removing his moral authority in the process.

sob I still want Fallout 3. Been waiting on making my next gen jump until I know which way Megaten is going, though.

aaaaaand that is a whole lot of facepalm. Then again...fandom's good at that. :/

I would say get Fallout 3 on Steam ($25!) before tomorrow, but there's no Mac version. :(

It seems all fandom is good at that. I just wish at this point that I wasn't the kind of notable name that I used to be, so people would stop bothering me. I wonder if fandoms like Megaten or Final Fantasy have members so notable that they keep getting bugged after they leave...

Much as I love my Macs, I pretty much know I'm not buying them for the gaming, so. XD

I've never really noticed anything quite like it in my other fandoms, but I also don't have as much history and involvement in those as I did with FE. I really wasn't active at all in Oofuri fandom despite being part of the scanlation team, and while Megaten's the most active I've been in a fandom since FE, it's still mostly limited to watching a certain few avenues of discussion and occasionally throwing my two cents in; most of my major fannish stuff is in RP circles, and those tend to operate a little more independently of the rest of it.

I post on a music forum, and awhile back people upset with the admin there started a new forum and everyone moved there, even the leader of the old forum eventually...it reminded me of the FE fandom.
Jul. 6th, 2009 11:49 am (UTC)
I should add that one of the people who started this new forum was the secondary admin on the old one, and the founder of the first forum was the very last person to be told about the new one. I still think it was kind of dirty.
Jul. 6th, 2009 02:54 pm (UTC)
That's definitely dirty. And I know from seeing it happen just how something like that happens. it doesn't even have to be something the other admin did wrong. That's the problem with group mechanics... sometimes, the group moves.
Jul. 6th, 2009 02:02 am (UTC)
I have to say, even though I haven't been paying any attention to it at all since my little activity burst there, I've seen this coming since the server went down, and the thread about it spiraled into... well.

I can see one benefit to this in the long run: Blacken getting banned. He's in the right most of the time until he starts dealing with other members, at which point he loses every bit of ability he has to speak. If he could keep it to just speaking to Josh instead of taking on all comers, he'd be in better shape. As it is, he completely polarizes the entire memberbase, usually to his fault.

Except that just talking to that peckerwood (who is NOT improved from the old days, and you fucking well know it--like Steve said, he's the same sniveling fucknut who tried to sneak back on FESS so many times) in private never works.

I've done so half a dozen times. I have logs. No change.
Cedric has at least twice. He has logs. No change.
Even STEVE had to step in and help him. This was IRC, so there are lots of logs. No change.

So, uh, yeah, I'm not the fucking problem here, and even you know that. If Josh actually *did something fucking right for once in his life* there wouldn't be a *need* for the doling out of solid amounts of backhands.

And you going "hurf durf Blacken banned is good!"? That just emboldens the little pissant, because to him, agreeing with *one thing he does* is tantamount to validating *everything he does*. You sunk any chance to effect change by legitimizing him in any way.

What happened?

I remember when people at FESS (and I'll admit, I was one of them) made fun of FEFF for having so many problems and so much instability, and acted as if that could never happen to us...it's kind of sad.
Jul. 6th, 2009 01:47 am (UTC)
Which one?
Jul. 6th, 2009 02:51 am (UTC)
Bus, don't get involved. This is not your undertaking, it's not your problem to deal with. I know you feel a sense of responsibility for sending the members there, only for the forum to become an embarrassment at best, but please don't feel like you have to get involved. That's what the staff, though small and crumbling, is for. We'll figure it out. It's our job. You don't deserve to have any of our responsibilities or hardships dumped on you at this point.

"Reactive banning?"

More like horribly delayed banning. Steve and BK had been trolling in SF pretty much ever since they joined it. Fox was a bit better, at least. Blacken has always been Blacken, laying the smackdown on the "subhumans."
Jul. 6th, 2009 05:37 pm (UTC)
BK? Trolling always? I think you're a bit off on this one.
Jul. 6th, 2009 06:16 pm (UTC)
He admitted it himself, actually.

The difference?

BK had been doing that for months.

Black Knight's and Steve's bannings were unacceptable. Black Knight was warned for creating a completely legitimate topic in the Site Suggestions board (and also received a warn for his reaction, "Unbelievable," which I think was a fair statement after Jyo's initial reply, which was:

Go post your walls of text rants somewhere, where people actually care.

Still waiting to see any kind of justification on that one.

Now, I understand my brother was doing other shit behind the scenes, like abusing the report function to get some kind of message across, so I can't really speak to that.

Steve's banning make me rage even harder, since he wasn't even doing anything when he was banned. It was completely retroactive, and as an administrator you don't get to do that.

I'll be frank: I will be further disappointed with the leadership of SF if their bans aren't reversed.

I am reminded as to why FE fandom no longer exists for me outside of my handful of LJ friends and my little corner of 'ficdom. The fandom needs, perhaps, to go the way of Sailor Moon fandom: Forum-free, barring a few isolated archives, and scattered to the four winds to be kept alive by a select few.
