I know I miss FESS, but...

Were our members ever as nasty as what I'm seeing on SF? I don't know what I said that brought on the level of venom I'm taking there. Jesus Christ.

Yes. Why do you think going into the debate forum became a subject of dread, rather than pride or bravado?

You know what this reminds me of? When the people at the SRW site you go to absolutely kicked the shit out of me because they interpreted a UTS as a personal affront on them, and almost got you banned.

It just took me a while to realize that most Fire Emblem fans are just as batshit.

That the folks at SRW – normally about as laid back a crowd as you will find – turned on you so abruptly and so dramatically is still a little scary to me. I did not expect that of them, but I guess no fandom is immune to this garbage.

Yes. I was complaining about it for years and how I felt it was eroding our memberbase. It was even a large part of the reason I decided to leave FESS.

The best part is that now Blacken and I have somewhat of an understanding. and I am much less angry now that I don't have FESS in my life. and I don't generally blast people who disagree with me on issues like I did with Blacken there, wow.

In short: my life without the Fire Emblem fandom is great and getting better.

I'm still a little peeved that he thought so low of me that he accused me of wanting to delete his posts. *Shugs*

I honestly don't remember half of what went on. I'm pretty sure I'm blocking it out. Which, to be honest, I don't mind my brain doing. Automatically saving me from grief and hard feelings.

Out of curiosity, I followed that link and read. Even without any knowledge of FESS aside from what I've heard from Bus, I feel like you're making so many good points. Especially about this "lol internet drama" attitude, and the "everything is a fight to the death" style of "debating." That pops up pretty much everywhere I see now.

I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure FESS members were nastier. Maybe not to you, but, yeah. Welcome to the message boards: Every asshole is an asshole on the assholenet.

It's very likely that no one in that thread knows who you are though. At least the thread I've seen you participating in.

FESSers were much worst. It's part of why I disappeared for a little while in 2005/2006. *A* But, they were also a little older and a lot smarter. Getting intelligent lifeforms to cooperate is a lot harder than, well, herding together... vegetables. XD

(Not to say I haven't seen any intelligent discussion on SF, but it doesn't have the same vigor as the arguments on FESS. They were out for blood!) XD

Also, poking around SF just to see which little n00blet is dumb enough to mess with you. Pffffff. XD

I don't expect people to treat me better just because I'm Superbus. It's been two years since I closed FESS; "Superbus" is not relevant anymore, and most of these kids don't know who I am. That is fine.

But I do expect to be treated with some accordance of respect. At this point, they're taking one or two lines and using it to make personal attacks on me. It's like someone disagreed with my reviews. I guess my problem is that I expect this from the gaming masses, but I didn't expect it on a Fire Emblem board because it's "my" fandom. I would never go on, say, a Dragon Quest fansite or any Squeenix fansite. But I expected different treatment at a hardcore Fire Emblem site where most of the members are socially deficient teenagers who are crazy enough to take a ROM of a game and completely master it within a week and a half.

I'm kind of curious, now... are these LJ users that are also over there (I ask because there seems to be a link between certain community memberships and a large amount of venom)? I'm a little scared for when the forum that I spend most of my time on grows out of its "we're a big family" stage and gets big in that manner. Even with how friendly everyone is, I stay very far away from anything remotely serious on there.

Sadly, it didn't used to be like this. Everyone used to be rather friendly, and at that time, we didn't even have fleshed out rules, all we had were a handful of guidelines.

I haven't exactly been an active poster on SF in the past few months, but whenever I do go there I don't notice a particularly high level of vitriol. Then again, when I do visit, it's usually just to say hello in that massive FE4 chat topic, so take that for what it's worth.

That said, I remember FESS being argumentative as fuck. There were posters like Neofox, who wouldn't let harmless comments like "I really like using x unit" slide without turning it into a fucking debate first.

See, that's the shit that I'm getting. It's different than, say, the debate forum (where you expect some pushback). I'm catching all this shit in the FE10 forum.
