lol @ the Brian Hill thing. Who is that guy? Did you, him, and his wife vote for him? XD;;

fuck yeah Rhode Island has independent governor! :D
And everyone in California seems to be surprised Prop 19 didn't do better (well, everyone I'm spoken to, and granted I've only spoken about it to people my age XD;;)

Brian K. Hill was an independent write-in candidate for U.S. Senate in Connecticut. If you look at his positions, they're actually pretty on-point for the most part. That's why I wrote him in. http://briankhill.com/?home

As for Prop 19, that was working against a lot of factors:

* Conservatives. More prevalent around the major cities (except San Francisco, which just banned Happy Meals. You would think Prop 8 would have taught people this by now.

* Hardcore anarchists and libertarians, who felt that the government would use the chance to impose massive taxes (uh, that's kinda the point...)

* The medicinal marijuana lobby. These people have a nice, comfortable monopoly, and want to keep it that way.

* Anti-corporatists. These are the people who are elitist about the weed they smoke, and feel that some Proctor and Gamble company is going to step in and mass-market shitty marijuana.

* The federal government, who stated, flat-out, that they would not honour Prop 19 should it pass.

Basically, for Prop 19 to succeed, every single pot smoker in the state, as well as all of the social libertarians who are in favour of legalization, would have had to vote for this. But - surprise! - the youth vote turnout was lower than anticipated. The young people of America are poor about consistently voting? The young people of America are unreliable!? Get out! Maybe it's because everyone that would have to vote for this is too stoned to make it out the door!

On Hill: I'm just wondering how someone gets only 3 votes. That's less than a handful of supporters. Even for an independent, low-funded write-in grassroots, etc, kind of guy, I would expect somewhere closer to 20 or 30, 3 is...like I said, you, him, and his wife voted for him. :/
Kudos to you for voting for him, better to get independents with good views than Democrats and Republicans. Wasn't trying to belittle either of you, it's kind of funny.

Yeah, I would assume that the young didn't turn out. All the bros and the party kids who smoke weed didn't vote. Other people who don't smoke it but would have legalized it didn't vote. Some people probably changed their mind when they got to the polling station.

It's funny that anti-corporatists would feel that way; I mean, I see the logic, even if I think it's a bit douche and retarded, but don't they realize how much pharmaceutical companies benefit from the illegality of cannibis?

Brian Hill was running for STATE senate, and I was one of three people in Derby - out of only a few thousand voters - to vote for him. Then again, he didn't get much in either direction; all of Connecticut's write-in candidates - of which Hill was the only notable one - got less than .1% of the vote throughout the state. That's expected in such a high profile race as this one.

How would pharmaceutical companies benefit from illegal marijuana?

OOOOOOOOH

The most obvious way would be that marijuana would replace painkillers. It also has other indications. It could be used as anti-depressant too, for example. It's something I hear a lot from people; mostly friends who smoke regularly, so I wouldn't be surprised if they exaggerate the number of potential medicinal uses.

I believe it too. As someone who still has chronic leg pain post-surgery, I would want a safe painkiller that's better than acetometaphine (Tylenol, which isn't too safe itself).
